Premiere: Rashaun Hampton Is Three For Three With The Self-Prod. ‘Basement Freestyle’

Artwork by: RAHEEMXP

Let me start this post of with a little story, this post means a lot to me so I feel the need to really go in-depth with this one. Ok, so it was nine days ago, it was a hot day, we haven’t had many of them so far this year over on this side of the globe. I’m at work, struggling away thinking about how long left I have till I drag my big ass home and relax, my phone goes and it’s a message from my man Rashaun Hampton. He simply writes ‘check your email’, so I proceed to do so, eagerly anticipating what awaits me. The email account opens and just as expected it’s goodies in the shape of a new record. I see the title of the track and before pressing play I automatically thought it was a freestyle over Travi$ Scott’s joint of the same name, I was wrong, it succeeded in being far superior than that.

Let me get back on track, the record from the North Carolina based MC is a self-produced effort, artists producing their own music has always been something I admire. Following recent releases ‘Jesus Pieces’ and the infectious ‘Love Me’ I expected something pretty special with this one and that is exactly what we got. The production is a head nodder, a slapper, trunk rattler, there are many words to describe it but I think you get my drift. Not letting such a ferocious beat outshine him on this one was Rashaun’s greatest move, he diverged with the beat, it’s like the two go hand in hand and it’s the perfect evidence that Rashaun is in a confident place right now when it comes to the creation of his product.

In album related news Rashaun will drop his new album later this fall, he told me he is hoping for a late September/early October release, one thing is for sure and that is the fact the ball is rolling fast, the heat continues and versatility is something Rashaun keeps on maintaining. Stream the track below and keep things locked for more.
